If you find yourself wandering through the bustling streets of Wan Chai, make sure to drop by Levain Bakery at 138-144 Queen's Rd E, where an irresistible aroma of freshly baked goods beckons you to step inside. This delightful café is a true haven for bakery lovers, boasting an impressive array of baked goods, including their celebrated sourdough and a selection of delectable pastries.

The café’s ambiance provides a cozy yet vibrant atmosphere, perfect for a leisurely brunch or a catch-up with friends. With a blend of rustic charm and a European feel, Levain Bakery invites you to escape the city's chaos and indulge in a moment of culinary bliss.

As you peruse the menu, you’ll discover standout dishes that have garnered rave reviews from patrons. The pain au chocolat is an absolute must-try—its delicate, flaky exterior gives way to a molten, rich chocolate center, delivering a heavenly experience with every bite. Combining this with a smooth flat white not only enhances the flavor but also creates a delightful harmony that leaves you wanting more.

For a warming start to your day, the sourdough toast set is a popular choice. The toast is beautifully crafted and comes served with a luscious spread of jam that perfectly balances sweetness with a hint of tang, making each bite a great value for money. Meanwhile, the brioche stands out with its buttery, fluffy texture, creating an experience that melts in your mouth.

While Levain is famous for its baked goods, it also shines in the coffee department. Many reviews sing praises for the robust and aromatic brews that accompany their pastries. Whether you prefer a classic hot black coffee or a creamy latte, each sip promises to complement your food perfectly.

However, it's worth noting that while the food quality is commendable, the café has received mixed feedback regarding its ambiance and service. Some guests have remarked on its slightly worn décor and occasional lapses in service; nonetheless, the experience of devouring their freshly baked delights is often enough to overshadow these minor imperfection.

In conclusion, Levain Bakery stands as a beacon for foodies and casual diners alike, where every visit is a delightful exploration of flavors. I recently stopped by Levain Bakery HK and indulged in their flat white and pain au chocolat, both of which were delightful. While they’re renowned for their sourdough, the pain au chocolat stole the show. It boasted a light, flaky exterior that was perfectly crispy, giving way to a rich, chocolatey center that was simply heavenly. The flat white complemented the pastry beautifully, with its velvety texture and robust flavor. The cozy ambiance of the bakery made it an ideal spot to relax and savor my treats. Although their sourdough is popular and highly recommended, they have many pastries you can choose from as well.

Wonderful baked goods!! I've been here a few times and so far all the pastries never disappoint. Brioche is soft, buttery, fluffy and served with jam (the jam is excellent, not too sweet with a bit of tang). Sourdough toast set is good value for money although I personally recommend sharing cause it's a lot of bread. They have really nice coffee too! Especially enjoyed the hot black coffee as its strong, but the dirty could be a bit better - the milk was not that cold at the time we were here so the temperature of the drink is 'lukewarm'. That aside, the coffee is still great. The interior feels homey as it reminds me of a cabin with the wooden furnitures. Great place for a weekend morning breakfast.

It’s on my bucket list for a while. Have been to here for a few times, mainly for grab my favorite sourdough and go. This is the first time to sit down and have brunch with my friends. My friends said the Turkey panini was amazing, 2 guys ordered the same thing, but Levain offered different bread to ask them to try and share, that’s really good! I love my sourdough with ham, apple and Brie, the walnut and homemade raspberries jam on the top definitely makes it to next level! And the other friend mentioned she likes her almond roll, but hot chocolate maybe too rich and thick, which makes her can’t finish it.

A French friend was raving about this place, so I decided to give it a try for a quick lunch. Decent bread but the place is rather rundown. The cutlery is not dried properly and has water stains, the furniture looks tired. The staff was confused on what kind of bread they still had. Salmon sandwich was fine, but nothing to write home about. I’d say if they clean up and update their place a bit they could be quite good. But in its current state, I’ll pass the next time.

It was a nice experience. The quality was good, including hot food and bread were both good, while the coffee was the most impressive part. They don't have much staff inside therefore, you have to wait patiently for the food to be ready. If you're in a rush, just grab a coffee and pastries then go. Don't order hot food. The atmosphere was good also, it makes you feel like, you are in Europe. They spend time and effort on coffee and pastries, worth trying. Just that the potion of hot food was too little and a bit over priced.

Bought the orange peels and raisins sourdoughs today and they were absolutely amazing The best sourdough I have ever had and highly recommend! The service at the counter was great and accommodating to our requests as well. Will come back again to try out some other pastries Glad I discovered this gem at Ship St. Wan Chai
